デモレーとは
デモレー・インターナショナルは、1919年にアメリカで創設された青少年を対象にした国際的なクラブです。日本支部であるジャパンデモレーは1949年に設立されました。米国各州の1,000支部やカナダ、ブラジルドイツなどの外国支部同様、ジャパンデモレーでも月例ミーティング、社会見学、スポーツ合宿、キャンプ、イベント、語学研修会など魅力ある「学外研修活動」を目指しています。入会対象者は世界共通で、12歳から21歳の男子です。活動は各地域の「チャプター」の仲間と行います。
さまざまなイベントと活動を通じて、いろいろな人と出会って円滑なコミュニケーションの方法を体得したり、社交性を磨いたり、より高い人格を目指して自己研鑽をすることが目的です。目上の人や優れた人を尊敬し、家族を大切にし、弱者をいたわり、良き市民として社会に貢献する活動は世界中のデモレーがするべきこととされています。
デモレーは若者たちのための社交クラブで、宗教法人ではありません。イベントはパブリックなもので、希望者はだれでも参加できます。
The Order of DeMolay is the World’s largest fraternity for young men. DeMolay was started in 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri and now has approximately 1,000 Chapters in the USA as well as ten other countries, including Canada, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Japan and so on. These young men have the opportunity to develop management, leadership and social skills as they participate in community project, sports, and other educational programs. The Japan Chapter was founded in 1949. DeMolay is a character building organization for young men who are 12 to 21 years of age.
Through various events and activities, our aim is to meet diverse individuals, hone effective communication skills, cultivate sociability, and pursue personal growth towards a higher character. Respecting elders and those of merit, cherishing family, showing compassion to the less fortunate, and contributing to society as responsible citizens are values upheld by DeMolays worldwide.
DeMolay is a social organization for young people, not a religious organization. The events are open to the public. Please come and check us out.
世界の兄弟たち
現在、世界中に1万6千人のメンバーがいます。過去にデモレーに所属したOBともいうべき人たちは、アメリカを中心に累積で300万人を越えています。
デモレーはメンバー同士が兄弟以上の「仲間意識」と「絆」を強く持つ点において他の組織や団体の追随を許しません。メンバー資格や式典は世界共通。その世界的なネットワークを通じ、生涯の友人関係を得ることができます。
特にアメリカにおいてきわめてステータスの高い青少年組織として認知され、社会的に高い評価を得ています。例え親しい知人がいない所でも「デモレー」は「最高の信用」を得るパスポートとなるでしょう。
日本でデモレーとして積極的に活躍した少年が成人になってアメリカへ留学したり、仕事で赴任した際、初対面のアメリカ人に「ジャパンデモレーのメンバーだった」という一言で相手の警戒心が解けた話や、たまたま機内で隣り合ったアメリカ人と話をしていたら、彼もデモレーであったということで、瞬時に子供の頃からの仲間のように親しくなったという話など、デモレーとしての活動はお金で買えない一生の財産になります。
デモレーのOBには米国の大統領、国会議員、州知事や様々な企業のリーダー、スポーツ選手、宇宙飛行士、学者から俳優まで、活躍する著名人が多くいます。ジョン・ウェイン、ウォルト・ディズニー、ピート・ローズ、ビル・クリントン元大統領などは日本でも有名なシニアデモレーです。
Currently, there are 16,000 members worldwide. The cumulative number of individuals who have been part of DeMolay in the past, akin to alumni, exceeds 3 million, primarily in the United States.
One of the unique aspects of DeMolay is the profound sense of camaraderie and bond among its members, surpassing that of siblings, unmatched by any other organization. Membership criteria and ceremonies are standardized globally. Through this international network, members can forge lifelong friendships.
Especially in the United States, DeMolay is recognized as an extremely prestigious youth organization, garnering high societal esteem. Even in unfamiliar places, being a “DeMolay” can serve as a passport to the highest trust.
In Japan, stories abound of young men who were active as DeMolays and later went to the United States for studies or work. Merely mentioning they were members of “Japan DeMolay” to Americans they met for the first time often dissolved any reservations. There are tales of chance encounters on planes where conversations revealed both parties were DeMolays, leading to instant camaraderie as if they had been friends since childhood. Such experiences as a DeMolay are invaluable treasures that money can’t buy.
Among the DeMolay alumni are prominent figures in the U.S., including presidents, congressmen, state governors, corporate leaders, athletes, astronauts, scholars, and actors. John Wayne, Walt Disney, Pete Rose, and former President Bill Clinton are some of the renowned senior DeMolays well-known even in Japan.
名前の由来
デモレーの名称は、14世紀のフランス人騎士であるジャック・ド・モレー（Jacques DeMolay）の優れた騎士道精神にちなんで名づけられました。ド・モレーはテンプル騎士団の最後の総長で、損得を越えた高潔な精神を持ち、真実と信仰を追求した公正な騎士で、仲間を守るための自己犠牲もいとわなかった立派な人物でした。
デモレーは青少年が一人でも多く、このド・モレー総長のように優れた人物になることを願い、創設されました。尚、日本においては、この「ド・モレー」をアメリカ風の発音に近い「デモレー」と表記しています。
The name “DeMolay” is derived from Jacques DeMolay, a 14th-century French knight, in honor of his exemplary chivalric spirit. DeMolay was the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar, a knight of unwavering integrity who transcended personal gain. He was a just knight who pursued truth and faith, and he did not hesitate to make personal sacrifices to protect his comrades.
DeMolay was founded with the hope that young men would aspire to become outstanding individuals, akin to Grand Master DeMolay. In Japan, the name “DeMolay” is used, which is closer to the American pronunciation of “DeMolay.”

デモレーは7つの基本理念を青少年に教えています。
DeMolay teaches seven core values, which we call cardinal virtues, as the basis of good character.
これは「立派な大人」として行動する時の生涯にわたる指針となります。物事の善悪を判断する時、人生の窮地に立たされた時、正しく勇気ある決断をもたらす源泉となるはずです。
